Casa de Dupass

So we took a huge step and purchased our first home here in South Bend! Luckily my parents were gracious enough this past year or so to let us live with them and save up for our first home and here we are!

It's funny that the first house we looked at during our house was the one we eventually purchased. We measured all of the other homes against this one. It doesn't hurt that it's a stone's throw away from the South Bend Potowotami Zoo and IUSB. Eventually if we were to sell our home, we wouldn't have any problems due to its close location to the local colleges.

It is an adorable white house on a picture perfect Midwest street riddled with American Flags and the greenest lawns. This is what many people would imagine their children first learning to ride their bicycles on the street, chasing the ice cream truck during the summers, and planting your first garden.

Of course after the first week we were here, we received a letter from the city stating that we were "required" to tear down the tree in our front yard which would cost us over $400. Kind of a "Welcome to Home Ownership" kind of experience. Due to the fact that the letter was issued prior to our purchase being finalized the previous owners footed the bill and took care of our supposed "diseased" tree. We'll have less shade in our front yard from here on out but at least we won't have to worry about a tree falling down on our house at least!
